Qualcon has great experience and knowledge of Responsible Care®.Responsible Care is the unique environmental management system of the chemical industry and chemical distributors. Responsible Care combines Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) into one managerial system that focus on the particular problems in the chemical sector. Responsible Care was invented in Canada and USA in 1985 and has since then spread to more than 40 countries. Responsible Care came to Europe in 1998 but started a little earlier in England.Responsible Care is build on 8 guiding principles that the members are committed to:1 Legal requirementsMembers must conform to all relevant regulations and requirements and operate in accordance with both government and industry codes of practice and guidance appropriate to their chemical activities.2 Management of riskMembers must assess and manage the risks associated with their activities to ensure a high level of protection for employees, contractors, customers, the public and the environment3 Policies and documentationEach member company should have documented policies and management systems consistent with the principles of Responsible Care4 Provision of informationMembers must provide relevant health, safety and environmental information to contractors, customers, statutory bodies and the public5 TrainingMembers should provide all employees with information, instruction and training to ensure they understand their responsibilities and their contribution towards the achievement of health, safety and environmental objectives6 Emergency responseMembers should establish and maintain appropriate emergency response systems7 Ongoing improvementsEach member company should support and participate in activities to improve its health, safety and environmental performance8 Community interactionMembers should be aware and respond to community concerns relating to their activities and those of the industryTo see lists of committed members of European Association of Chemical Distributors, FECC, click here
Verification of Responsible Care, ESADResponsible Care can be verified according to European Single Assessment Document, ESAD, that is 216 questions in the 8 guiding principles of Responsible Care. Each question must be answered, where relevant, according to SHEQ. ESAD is made by FECC and is focused on the concerns of chemical distributors. The verification can be made by accredited companies like DNV. |
